GADHOH Female Wing - Kanifing

(GADHOH = Gambia Association for the Deaf and Hard or Hearing).

On Tuesday 18th of March 2008: Open day at GADHOH Female Wing in Kanifing. At the end of the ceremony, the buildings were handed over by foundation BUGANALA to GADHOH Female Wing.

new nursery school for deaf children with two classrooms, office and store

building for vocational education for deaf girls (15+), with a literacy class, a workshop for sewing, knitting and other needle work, tiled kitchen with gas ovens, half open kitchen for preparing local dishes, half open space for batik and tie and dye, and    store,

toilet building with toilets for adults and children

borehole with pump and water tank on solar

electricity connection

bullet

new furniture

bullet

new sewing machines

bullet

new education material and outside playing material

bullet

a school bus for the daily transport of the deaf children and girls

trees and flowers have been planted

The buildings are constructed by Foundation to Build, project manager Mr. Gert Jan van der Marel. A group of deaf boys was employed. Great compliments to Gert-Jan and his team!!
We are convinced that we can say that this project is successful.

We thank all the people who contributed to this project: the sponsors who donated the money for the buildings, NCDO, Salomons Aid Fund for the school bus, friends who donated their 40 year’s marriage-present, three sisters who were selling Danish bread, the deaconate of a church, the company who donated sewing machines, Abou and Binta who donated the trees, companies who donated hairdressing materials and children's clothes, and all family and friends for their contributions.

I also thank the Foundation to Build through Mr. Gert Jan van der Marel and his organization. This was big proud to GADHOH Female Wing, especially the parents or the deaf and all the Gambian people.”

With this project the first official nursery school for deaf children has been realised and the first official skills training centre for deaf girls (15+),
The Gambian government allocated the plot of land on which the buildings have erected to GADHOH. At the same plot, the head office of GADHOH  will be built.
